ThanksGiving Flying
Another fun morning of flying. Another 14 tows!
Two of the students (Reinhold and Amanda) were out to brave the brisk morning. We got out there just after sunrise (going on 8) to frosty grounds but we all warmed up quickly. It was Reinhold's sixth session and he's transitioning to the base-tube now on the Condor and landing on the wheels. It was Amanda's third session and she's handling the Condor 330 well despite her small stature.
A huge thanks to Ryan who helped me out a great deal all weekend. I picked him up in Hamilton after a family wedding of mine late Friday night and we drove through the night to Ohio to meet up with a guy meeting us coming from Missouri to buy his Falcon2-140. The trip worked out really well meeting him only about a half hour later than scheduled. We quick set up the glider, sealed the deal and we were on our way home. I made it home Sat night just in time to put Brody to bed....what a trip... I was lucky to have Ryan there to share the driving - he didn't sleep the entire way...I dunno how he did that.
We test flew that glider today and Amanda had a couple of runs with it as well. It's 40% the size of the Condor 330 (that's 60% smaller) so it's certainly snappier to handle than the 330! :) The glider was made in 2004 but has about 45 seconds of airtime on it. They bought gliders (for he and his wife) AND THEN sought out lessons. He stuck with the sport but his wife only did TWO training hill flights with it - she loved it...life just got in the way. It was an OK deal considering it's pretty much just been test flown - the sail is crisp and the even upgraded it with the flip battens (new on the market at the time), heavy-duty waterproof bag, and airfoil downtubes.
Ryan also reassembled the Falcon 190 this morning for me and he test flew it - what a huge, thankless job that was. It sure gives you faith in your gear tho when you know you can take a glider apart and put it back together properly. I got the sail back from WW on Friday and was anxious to bet it back on and in the air. The repair looks great even tho it is a bit of a patch job and it shows what UV does to a glider over the years. It cost me a few hundred bucks to repair but will be well worth it...that glider has a lot of life left in it.
If you ordered parts from me from WW, they are in. Let me know when/how you want to get them. Hopefully see you at the meeting
Tuesday night.
